چکیده

Expert knowledge can often be represented using default rules of the form “if A then typically B”. In a probabilistic framework, such default rules can be seen as constraints on what should be derivable by MAP-inference. We exploit this idea for constructing a Markov logic networkM from a set of first-order default rules D, such that MAP inference fromM exactly corresponds to default reasoning from D, where we view first-order default rules as templates for the construction of propositional default rules. In particular, to construct appropriate Markov logic networks, we lift three standard methods for default reasoning. The resulting Markov logic networks could then be refined based on available training data. Our method thus offers a convenient way of using expert knowledge for constraining or guiding the process of learning Markov logic networks.

Tractable Markov Logic

Tractable subsets of first-order logic are a central topic in AI research. Several of these formalisms have been used as the basis for firstorder probabilistic languages. However, these are intractable, losing the original motivation. Here we propose the first non-trivially tractable first-order probabilistic language. It is a subset of Markov logic, and uses probabilistic class and part hierar...

Learning Possibilistic Logic Theories from Default Rules

We introduce a setting for learning possibilistic logic theories from defaults of the form “if alpha then typically beta”. We first analyse this problem from the point of view of machine learning theory, determining the VC dimension of possibilistic stratifications as well as the complexity of the associated learning problems, after which we present a heuristic learning algorithm that can easil...

Markov Logic Networks for Natural Language Question Answering

Our goal is to answer elementary-level science questions using knowledge extracted automatically from science textbooks, expressed in a subset of first-order logic. Given the incomplete and noisy nature of these automatically extracted rules, Markov Logic Networks (MLNs) seem a natural model to use, but the exact way of leveraging MLNs is by no means obvious. We investigate three ways of applyi...

Relational Knowledge Extraction from Neural Networks

The effective integration of learning and reasoning is a well-known and challenging area of research within artificial intelligence. Neural-symbolic systems seek to integrate learning and reasoning by combining neural networks and symbolic knowledge representation. In this paper, a novel methodology is proposed for the extraction of relational knowledge from neural networks which are trainable ...

Event Modeling and Recognition Using Markov Logic Networks

Abstract. We address the problem of visual event recognition in surveillance where noise and missing observations are serious problems. Common sense domain knowledge is exploited to overcome them. The knowledge is represented as first-order logic production rules with associated weights to indicate their confidence. These rules are used in combination with a relaxed deduction algorithm to const...
